2009 Young Rider Program

Area VII had a great showing at the 2009 NAJYRC. Our three riders were amazing team members, displayed great work ethic and excellent sportsmanship. Our Vet, Sue Emerson, was an amazing asset to the team and stable manager, Anni Grandia, did a fantastic job of running the barn and teaching. Our one Star Riders performed well with Lizzie Snow bringing home 5th place and Amber McCluskey finishing in 26th. Lizzie and Amber joined with Area IX to form a team and were awarded 6th place in the CH-J*. Our lone two star rider Natascha Eickert placed 17th on Paddy Winkler Lad. Natascha joined teams with Areas III and VIII and brought home the BRONZE team medal in the CH-YR **.

We are very proud of our riders and their accomplishments at NAJYRC! Way to go Area VII!

Area VII Young Rider member Lizzie Snow and Amber McCluskey will be representing us at the CCI One Star and Natascha Eickert will be riding at the CCI Two Star. Along with these riders will be a support crew including YR grooms Sarah Clancy, Hanna Roberts, Kelly Lynch and Sarah Carpenter. We are fortunate to have John Williams from Southern Pines as our coach in Jonathan Elliott's absence. Additional help with the team will be provided by Dr. Sue Emerson and Anni Grandia. Please cheer for our Young Riders!

The premier equestrian competition in North America for junior and young riders, age 14-21. Young equestrians come from the United States, Bermuda, Canada, Mexico, Puerto Rico, and the Caribbean Islands to vie for Championships in the three Olympic equestrian disciplines of show jumping, dressage eventing and the western style discipline of reining. The competition is run under rules of the FEI (Federation Equestre Internationale), the international governing body for equestrian sport.

The NAJYRC began in 1974 as an eventing challenge between young riders from the United States and Canada. A Dressage Championship was added in 1981, and Show Jumping was added in 1982. The first championship was held in British Columbia, Canada in 1982. Fully recognized championships for junior riders were added in 2006 and a fourth discipline, reining, was added in 2007.

Area VII has been very successful in past years and has brought home many medals in both the One Star competition and also the Two Star Competition. It is the goal of the Area VII Young Rider organization to help members have the opportunity to attend this event and give them the tools to do well and have a positive experience.
